Here’s a look a few games that have recently graced the Steam Deck in either demo form or launch mode. So while they don’t deserve a full break down of what they offer, I think it would be worthwhile giving a summary of what we thought about them.

The Battle of Aurinoxia – N11 Games DivisionÂ
You’ve got to love the blurb on this one straight out of the gate. “The Alliance’s mission to exploit precious resources from Aurinoxia IV has erupted in conflict with residents of the system. As the Aurinoxians commence a brutal attack on Alliance ships, they target mining operations and destroy civilian outposts without discretion. The Alliance response is swift and unified. You are among the first pilots to arrive in the system to mount the counteroffensive. Get out there and show those aliens the price for messing with the Alliance!”
What we have here is a retro vertical up the screen pixel dynamite mass explosions kind of a game, where you take your ship through a 6 level story, culminating in a boss fight at the end very much like the old arcade games of the early nineties when they were still trying to draw things properly on screen. There’s points in the game where you’ll feel overwhelmed and fighting for your life, but the clear winner here is the nostalgia hamburger waiting for you to bite down on. There’s a random score attack mode to dive into and while it’s not going to rewrite the rules on your average shoot ’em up, I must admit I played through all the way to end with a big dumb grin on my face. it also includes “Original synthesizer soundtrack” featuring brand new music by Interface Type Seven. It’s all pretty much a blast.
The views in this article are based on a version of the game provided to us by the designer and publisher. This version may be a demo, prelaunch or similar. We were not paid monetary compensation for this article. We give a general overview of the gameplay and so not all of the mechanical aspects of the game may be mentioned. Videogames are strange because the act of playing them will often cement if you want to keep playing them further. So we normally give a video game the benefit of the doubt and keep playing until we get an idea of what the game offers. Some games will not require a huge written piece to describe what they do and how they made us feel about them. We understand that behind every game is someone who has dedicated time, effort and money and so we'll often tell you about things that didn't gel with us instead of trashing someone's hard work. We hope this write up gives you an idea of whether or not this is something that you will consider playing or even add to your collection. Even if we don't like something, hopefully it helps you to decide if it is something that you should find out more about. We always suggest you check out a gameplay video to give you a better understanding of the game as it is played.
